Is anybody surprised? I for sure am not. But after hearing news reports that armed lunatics entered Bombay by sea in boats all the way from Karachi I can't help asking the question: What was the Indian Coast Guard doing? And considering there's also a huge contingent of the Indian Navy based in Colaba, I wonder how even they didn't spot something suspicious entering our waters. Oh I forgot - they have more important things to do at the moment, like chasing Somali pirates in the Gulf of Aden.

How could we let this happen, seriously?

"ATS Chief Hemant Karkare killed" -- Who did he think he was - Rambo? You need effective intelligence and a good security infrastructure to prevent things like this happening. I do not want my tax money spent on getting us pictures of the goddamn moon ... spend it instead on making our cities safe, is what I'll say to PM Manmohan Singh.

And that's about all I want to say right now. My blood is boiling.

One more thing - Those of you sitting snug there in the US and elsewhere around the world please don't tell us to "stay safe". Come back here and you'll know how hard it is to stay safe.

can you stop sounding so scared? sure... let's stop the moon mission. let pirates rule the waves.just because some gun-toting fanatics are holding us to ransom. let's just play into their hands.

Its all Maya said...

Yes, they are maniacs. Heard one of the terrorists speaking to a TV channel. I must say, they are thoroughly brain-washed.

Do what you can do at your end. This is not the end.. it's a beginning of a war.

My blood is boiling too. I don't know who is responsible for us to be unsafe, but I do know that the Police and Army is dying by the minute to keep me safe tonight. When you crib about things this country messes up, don't forget about the ones who are doing their job. And doing it bloody well at that.

ohhh...and the latest is that mr lk advani is there in front of the oberoi to see whats happening....and take up all the security for himself. the police is clueless about anything. we need a change in govt....all these politicians who know exactly what is going to happen but dont do anything....and let innocent people be killed....they should be shot!

couldnt agree with u more swb.

guess what? there's a lotta shit going on "out there / elsewhere" as well. sitting snugly aint an option for any Indian anywhere else, except at home. and these wankjobs aren't allowin us that either!

i agree with Sonia.. its the helplessness that makes everyone feel even more victimized.

and by god, im proud of the Army. they are the only institution left where you can still believe in something. the police though, have shed blood for us man, give them credit. lord knows, they need our support too.

P.S: you should be flattered that someone wants you to stay safe. i normally say "stay safe" from a purely condomonial perspective.

i agree with sonia - no where is safe anymore. such a helpless feeling sitting so far - can't do much which frustrates and makes me angry.

Why shouldn't we just do exactly the same to all the brainwashed lunatics who are caught alive? Lets just take them to the Kashmir border and flog them alive!

SWB, Why can't we, the masses actually bring out what we demand from the Government and do a mass gathering saying this is what needs to be done? I am sure our voices WILL be heard if we make an effort. I am here in the US right now, was flying down to Bombay for a fleeting visit next month, but this incident has gotten me so enraged that I'm willing to do whatever there is to do in my capacity, even if it means spending all my time writing petitions, taking out a mass movement.

JOE: i dont think u ever got the point.

1) none of us have said that the army or the police here is bad. they are better than in any other country. but its the govt's duty first to see that the people are safe....army and police only implement what they say. and given the num of attacks in India vs that in the US or UK....it clearly shows exactly how efficient our govt is.

2)u pay tax and face "lotta shit"....we pay tax here and get blown up every alternate month. i dont think u have any clue about the difference.

Bips: I dont think you even have a point.

1. this isn't an us vs. them thing. or a west vs. east thing. terrorism is a global phenom. the people who suffer are always the innocents. Fact.

2. don't you patronize me. where i or you pay tax is irrelevent. no one begrudges the hardship faced, its my country just as much as its yours. i've been in india all my life, and i know everything there is to know about "the difference". which isn't much. if it isn't terrorism, its racism. if it isn't racism, its something else. so don't fucking patronize me, all right?

We are all hurting. so cut the us vs. them ideology and see the bigger picture. Horseblinds are for horses, not humans.

Joe: thanks for showing me the bigger picture....but it really isnt making me or others here feel any better or safer. i would still like to wear horseblinds and look first at whats happening at my own home.

Blues: sorry for using ur space like this.

Salty. to be snug u need to have a peaceful heart, which isn't possible when ur country bleeds far away from u. when u know u cant do a damn thing about it than pray that those in there are safe, so I wud go ahead and pray n say again, stay safe if u can. wish u cud know that v stayed all night here hoping those bloody idiots leave my country n my people alone n dont make us already divided ppl more hateful of each other:(. n no.being away doesnt make it easier. i've seen enough when i was there to relive it and take it with me wherever i go.

SwB, it's choices we make. You chose to stay on in Mumbai, another in Delhi and another in Los Angeles- being in any city doesn't make one safer or less/more susceptible to attacks-terrorist, racist or mudslinging. And yes, these patronizing comments too! Whatever happened to your 'Spirit of Mumbai' man? Get on with it and show us what we 'sitting snugly in the US/UK' are missing.

I'm disappointed in you, SwB. Sorely so. Be glad someone cares enough to say 'Stay Safe'. Out here in foreign lands, sometimes there's not a soul to share a smile and ask 'how are you doing?' Be grateful people care. And no, it's not an outpouring of sympathy- it's empathy. Know the difference.

Bravo Narco.

I couldn't have put it better. Ok, i did, but with less impact. ah well, you know what i mean :)

Sitting in the US/ UK doesn't give us immunity from anything. In fact, i daresay it is the extreme and ill informed opinions such as our friend Bips here, which put us on the defensive all the time.

SWB, I'll defend my motherland to the ground. But i'll be damned if i allow anyone else to question my patriotism or concern for my countrymen. Narco is spot on.. that is beneath you, dude.

Who did he think he was - Rambo?

Now after knowing how he got killed, do you still say so? And what right do we have to point fingers or judge a brave officer like him? This one time I think you have gone too far..
