I have a choice: Ignore my very badly inflamed throat and tonsils and head out with the boys to have a rocking New Year, not worrying too much about what will happen thereafter, or, stay at home and let my mother take good care of me so that I am fit and fine tomorrow and the day after when all the fun is over.
Hmmm .... I really don't know.

2010. A year in which so may people I know found the love of their lives and have tied the knot (or have picked up their crosses ... haha!), it's actually quite depressing. Well - for the rest of us becharas there's always next year. That's tomorrow.
It is also the end of a decade - one I remember was brought in with a big party on Fats' terrace where after about an hour decibel levels reached such a high it took a van full of policemen and a thousand bucks cash to bring things down to normal again. And I remember looking up at the night sky thinking how awesome it is to be alive at the turn of the millennium and hoping that from then on things would be different. I would get my life back on track, forget about the girl who broke my heart and basically just make things work. Have I succeeded? Funny thing is now, ten years later, I really don't care or even think about it that much. Life is what it is - like my friend Lü always says in his Swiss-German accent -- "It izz what it izz" and you just gotta go with it.
I often wonder what it must be like though to live the life of someone else - to be in their shoes and socks and pants and shirts (no, never in their underwear, in case you're wondering). Like I think about people I know, mostly fellow bloggers whom I have never met, and imagine what it's like being a single mother who has just released a book I hope will make her famous, or this other guy in advertising married to this really hot dame (whoa, he must have a life, the lucky sumbich!), stuff like that. Would life have been different for me were I in a different line of work ? Or if I had lived in a different city maybe? Would a career in advertising in Bombay have landed me a hot dame and a flat in Bandra or would I still have been plain ol' me in this boring city? I wonder.
Anyway, not too much to fret about. You never know how things change in the course of a year. Close it with Josh Ritter whose music I've been listening to a lot lately.
For all of you for whom 2010 didn't deliver, here's to 2011!
Peace, love, and fresh promises.

Among other things that keep me sane are a few blogs including yours which seem to put things in perspective...always. Thank you for all your writing!
Wish you a fulfilling 2011 SwB :) Happy New year...
Happy new year SWB... and thanks for sharing some awesome music too...
what is this obsession with advertising? it's a job. like any other. and the lucky ones love it. and the unlucky ones wonder what it would be like to be banking. or film making. or elevator manufacturing.
so my wish for you is you continue to imagine what it would be like to be someone else's shoes. while you also love your own shoes. have a super 2011. that makes you very happy.
sheesh. sorry if i wrote too much. the bar opened at 7!
Humko Ghalib ne yeh dua di thi, tum salamat raho hazar baras. Ye baras to faqat dino mein gaya.
Happy new year SwB. May 2011 bring us the best of everything. Amen! Nice Josh Ritter song here. :)
Like AGG said, love your own shoes. You don't know what other shoes are suffering from! :-)
Happy 2011 SwB! Thanks for writing this blog. For me, its the only one which i can relate to.
This post applies to me so well too...so many people got married, fell in love...worse still...all my friends marry back to back in 2011 too!!!
About Advertising, I can assure...nothing like that would happen....you would just slog with no life or money...you would meet some skanky woman who would want a dopey hip guy....nahhhh not happening at all....try some other pants n shoes :)
Seriously, 2011 better bring with it a lot of love luck!!!
Happy New, hopefully love year SwB :)
Hahaha, yes. Whether or not it makes me famous, I hope it makes me rich :D
Happy 2011, Swb. Big hug. If your 2010 was particularly crappy, then 2011 is the one that's going to make it all worthwhile - a theory I've tested :|
Happy New year, SWB. Hope you write more this year.
Here's hoping for a full-delivering 2011 for you! Much fun, much happiness, and all other good things :)
SwB - My 2010 has been the worst. But reading your blog helps me put things in perspective. Life is what it is... But how do you get your heart to accept that and find happiness in what's left of it? I hope the new year brings us happiness, content and new meaning.... :)

Hey Salty, happy new year and you never know what the year brings, right? Let's keep our fingers crossed that it turns out to be one that brings us happiness (and maybe a pinch of sorrow if it has to really be there):-)
Happy new year! May the next year bring all that you've been wishing for!
other people's socks far worse..imagine their toe-jams...LOL...
