1411?
Now that is bound to upset some people. Because the correct figure should be 1414. Yes, how could they leave out the three that rule the city of Mumbai - the three that have been roaring very loudly in recent times, making every outsider who has encroached on their territory well aware of who's boss.
But jokes apart, how did they arrive at the number? Because from what I know you'd have more luck catching Katrina Kaif scratching her rear in public than spotting a tiger in the wild. I could say there are just 156 left and they'd have a hard time disproving me.

And what is this Join the Roar nonsense? Something some over-creative adwalla came up with after seven or eight Old Monks I reckon. Because how is joining the roar going to save the tiger? As if some poacher in Ranthambore is going to think twice before he lays his next trap, -- you know what, there are 75380 people "roaring" on some website ... maybe I should just let this one go and find myself a 'real' job. I don't think so.
A better idea would be, you know, to 'Adopt a Tiger'. Now there's something that'll have plenty of takers ... among the rich and lamous of course, these being what you might call collectors items. Pay a certain amount every month or every year and receive regular updates on how your tiger is doing. You could even have the option of naming the beast and visiting him when he's feeling friendly. Before you know it, it will become the new status symbol and a topic of socialite conversation -- Ohh my Sheroo is doing so well ... I'm paying extra so that he gets only prime rib. -- Mine is vegetarian, we being Jain and all ... but I make sure he gets twice the amount of soya!
Surely better than spending all that money buying some outfit you're only going to wear once, or a handbag designed by some French cross-dresser.
I know. I really am in the wrong line of work.

I like your idea of "Adopt a tiger" :-) I believe that good publicity can make anything successful in India.
we were discussing the same thing about the roaring project over tea. :-) good idea on the adoption.
Shut up and stay where you are. If you ever get into advertising I'm disowning you!
Oh yes, absolutely. In fact I think I will send this link to the saveourtigers people. Who knows they might decide to follow up on this? Online initiatives that do not have an offline follow up die out very quickly.
AAAHHAAHA...rich and lamous! :D
good idea though - 'adopt a tiger'...the likes of john abraham might even volunteer to raise a few cubs on their property...
nice blog, nicer music... :)
When will they ever learn..when will they ayvah learn..
Yup, that 'Join the roar' campaign is ridiculous. Very tongue-in-cheek, this post. Nice! :D
I want the album.
The Mysore Zoo has as adopt an animal scheme that has made it one of the best managed zoos in the country.
how do you think the tiger would feel when some rich aunty adopts him and then decides to name him after her fat son called gudda. or laltu.
i think he would prefer not to be saved.
bang on, swb, i couldn't agree more. why is aircell into tigers all of a sudden anyway? i mean, why not save the mumbaikar instead? or the page 3 socialite? or me? whatthefuck!?
U so abso-really are in the wrong line of work :) !!
I'm very concerned, and very aware ... but I think that there is a lot more that can be done to help. Why does your idea sounds insanely alright and such a pain in the ass to think that it might make it on a reality tv someday?
I wonder what were we doing all this while, while the number came down to 1411. How come we didn't know of the crisis, around say 3000 or something ? Absurd, yes, everything.
Love it, love it, love it! The blog, the humor, the idea...et al.
Tee hee!Love the post and love the idea of a Jain tiger the most.
Hmmm.. Thakereys are not tigers, that would mean giving them undue and totally undeserved bhaav!
Loved the post... Hilarious it is.. Especially the Jian tiger bit :P
swb....if the num ever drops to 156 then we are as good as dead. this num came from the WII report which created a furore in 2008...becoz everybody 'thought or believed' that the number was above 3000. 1411 compared to 3000 is dangerously low. tigers are on top of the food chain...so if they go...can u even imagine what will happen??
also do not compare the politicians with the tigers. its an insult to the tigers! :-)
and all the roadrunning is my favourite album...love all the songs in this :-)
bips
Totally wholeheartedly agree..I know everyone's concerned, including, but I want my hypothetical kids to see these wild cats dammit
The adoption idea was hilarious... But to be perfectly honest.. I think we should con a few social-ites to go to ranthambore and leave them in the middle of nowwhere at the mercy of the tiger without their cellphones. It'll be fun to watch how the handbag is of no use when it comes to shooing a tiger who could eat you cos you haven't left any place left for it to live or any animals for it to eat :)
I get a feeling it would be more effective... definitely more fun to watch
this post is absofuckinglutely brilliant! are you into copywriting?
and thanks for linking an all-time favourite song of mine, even if it hardly goes with the tone of post.
tc :)
